There’s laughter in the house again. 1.5 weeks There’s laughter in the house again. 1.5 weeks ago I resigned from my full time job that I loved so much from one of the top universities in the world. 6 years I was there creating and learning and mentoring and collaborating….. but the last 2 years haven’t been really fair for my kids, my husband, and especially myself. With the responsibilities of a pastor’s wife never going away and to never get these precious years of my kids back, I took a step of faith to leave my place of financial security to take on a part-time role and trust God with the rest. Since then, fear started to mount. Did I make a bad decision? What the heck am I doing? What happens if we encounter a life event that will cost us an arm and leg? How will we pay for it? A little quiet voice kept pushing the fear away: “God will provide”. Yesterday, we did encounter that life event that will cost us - R got braces and only my work benefits cover half of it. Our first payment is already $700, with the final total up to $4K. “How are we going to pay for the monthly fees when my benefits end in April?” And my mind just went off to figure out how it’s all going to work. But then, that still small voice again: God is going to provide. And literally 3 hours after R got her braces on, God provided for the first payment plus more. He also resolved some other personal relationship issues I was dealing with in one fell swoop. When God does it, He does it in such glorious fashion that only you know it’s from Him. Praise the Lord. If there is one time I couldn’t be more sure to take that leap of faith, it would be now. #walkingwithGod #christianlife #jesussaves #ptl #faith

I’m starting to see the challenges using a crappy brush on painting on the left side lollllll should’ve just used my watercolour pencils to do the brow + lashes. Bleh. So many lessons learned about watercolour in this So many lessons learned about watercolour in this project: 1. Need good brushes, especially the small detail ones 2. Aim to finish the project even when it doesn’t look that great 3. Need to find a watercolour eraser (if there’s such thing) because white doesn’t cover your mistakes…. 4. …. Or make sure you wash your brushes really well before putting a brush onto paper. Circa 2004. I forgot about this! It’s supposed t Circa 2004. I forgot about this! It’s supposed to be a self portrait lol. Since then, I haven’t done much pencil stuff until now. What happened between then and now? I made the decision to be a graphic/web designer. I think as I sat behind the computer screen doing my designs, in some ways, it developed my eye for things? I dunno. But it’s cool to have a baseline to know where I started before my career as a designer and how it changed my drawing skills ‘cause I’m even shocked at my own art these days. #pencil #drawing #sketching #portrait #selfportrait
So I never had formal training on watercolour, I s So I never had formal training on watercolour, I skipped Gr 10 art - should’ve went for it. Anyway, so far everything I’ve done is just looking at other people’s stuff and kinda winging it. Pencil sketching/shading and colour pencils are not a problem, but watercolour is completely different! Not only do you need to figure out how to mix colours, but also what size brush to use and when, how much water where and when, and sometime you just gotta walk away so paint can dry.. it’s so weird…. It’s a brand new world when you start to paint realistic portraits. So, I went on a hunt to find some tutorials on this watercolour portrait stuff. Eyes are my fave to paint, so I started with that…. Wow learned so much from this exercise! Roughly a one-hour sketch. I had a toddler keep as Roughly a one-hour sketch. I had a toddler keep asking for things so couldn’t entirely focus on this drawing. So I learned something about myself as an artist, I need to be completely inspired before I can work on a piece - especially portraits. The last 2 paintings (shown in my story if you caught them) were fails ‘cause of lack of motivation whereas the last post, that was after watching some pretty awesome videos of portrait painting. My first portrait in colour… ever. Ever since My first portrait in colour… ever. Ever since I did the pencil portraits of my kids, just wanted challenge myself. Yes, believe it, those were my first portrait drawings. Growing up, I was told art is not a career, so I thought, why try. Completely inspired by some of the most amazing portrait watercolourists recently, yesterday, I decided to give this portrait painting thing a try and see how I’d do and just to see what my style is as an artist.
